Harrods Spectacular Christmas Draw

Large_hamperHarrods_Bears

In December, CMHC held a 'Harrod's Spectacular Christmas Draw' thanks to David Jagoe and Paul Checkley who kindly donated three fantastic prizes which enabled us to hold a Christmas raffle.

First prize was a luxury Knightsbridge Hamper from Harrod's worth £250 and full of festive goodies. Second prize was a Charlie Wiles 2011 Harrods Annual Bear and third prize was a Harrod's 2011 Freddie Bear. The lucky tickets chosen at random by Colin Whittall, one of our dedicated volunteers, were: 208, 137 and 83.

The raffle generated a huge amount of interest and was incredibly successful, raising a fantastic total of £875.00!

CMHC would like to say a big thank you to everyone who purchased tickets and in particular to David and Paul for making the event possible. David's mother, Joan Jagoe, sadly passed away at the hospice in 2011and the charity continues to receive support from the family, who have also set up a JustGiving page through which CMHC receives donations in memory of Joan http://www.justgiving.com/Joan-Jagoe

To date, the page has raised a huge £4,775.25 including Gift Aid.

CMHC would like to say thank you and well done to Shane Lee and team pictured above who took part in the Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon on Sunday 9th October to raise funds for CMHC and Fishermen's Mission. (From left to right - Sonny Lee, John Lee, Mike Issac and Shane Lee).

The same weekend, Shane also kindly donated 10% of the profits from his three fish and chip shops - Best Fry in West End, The Codfather in Hedge End and J Henry's also in Hedge End - to his two chosen charities.

In total, the team raised a fantastic £1,200.00 for CMHC. This is a great achievement and we hope you all keep up the good work!

Help the Hospices Awards

Pip Leach wins The National Gardens Scheme - Lifetime Achievement Award

Pip_award

Pip Leach, gardening co-ordinator at CMH, has won the Help the Hospices and National Gardens Scheme (NGS) award for Lifetime Achievement after impressing the judges with her team approach to maintaining the gardens at our hospice. The hospice was awarded £1,000 as the winning prize.

The award ceremony took place on Tuesday 27th September at the Help the Hospices bi-annual conference in Bournemouth, ahead of the first ever Hospice Care Week (8th-14th October).

Pip started working as a gardening volunteer at CMH in 1977 after having been an Occupational Therapist at Knowle Hospital. She was instrumental in creating the original gardens and has further developed the garden areas as team organiser since the new Hospice was opened 12 years ago. She now co-ordinates a team of 25 gardeners and has given, on average, more than two days a week over the past 34 years as a volunteer.

Pip was presented with the award by Lord Howard, chairman of Help the Hospices, the national charity representing and supporting more than 200 local hospices.
